GMU Shade Tree Planting Rebate Program: Greenfield Municipal Utilities (GMU) is offering a Shade Tree Planting Rebate Program to help residents improve their properties while increasing energy efficiency. This program encourages homeowners to plant shade trees in strategic locations to provide natural cooling, wind protection, and long-term environmental benefits. Residents can receive a rebate of up to $50 per tree, with a maximum of $50 per customer. To be eligible, trees must be planted on GMU customer property in areas that provide shade for homes or buildings, especially over air conditioning units. Trees cannot be planted in locations that interfere with utility lines or public right-of-way. To claim the rebate, residents must submit a rebate request form along with a paid receipt to Greenfield City Hall. GMU provides guidelines on selecting the right tree, preparing the planting site, and maintaining trees to ensure healthy growth. This program offers homeowners the opportunity to enhance their yards, lower energy costs, and support Greenfield’s ongoing recovery and environmental sustainability. For more information or to apply, visit GMU or contact City Hall. See attached for all the details.

Alliant Tree Program: Greenfield residents can purchase discounted trees through a residential tree distribution program sponsored by Alliant Energy and Greenfield Municipal Utilities. This initiative aims to enhance yards, improve energy efficiency, and support environmental resilience. Trees are available for $25 each (retail value over $75), with a small processing fee if paying by credit card (see flyer). Available species include Sycamore, Chinkapin Oak, Thornless Honey Locust, Kentucky Coffeetree, and Bur Oak. Each household may order up to two trees in advance through the online ordering system (link provided below). Tree pickup will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in Greenfield. A free tree planting workshop will be held 30 minutes into the event to provide guidance on proper placement and care. Unclaimed trees will be donated, and any remaining trees may be available for purchase at the end of the event. Residents should contact Iowa One Call (811) before planting to check for underground utilities. Those in tornado-affected areas are advised to wait until yard grading is complete. Trees may not be planted in roads or utility right-of-way along streets or alleys. For more details and to place an order, visit the online ordering page (while supplies last).
