Below is the Weekly Recovery Update. Each week the Weekly Recovery Update includes the latest on recovery progress, important community updates, along with community events and announcements.
December 19th Recovery Update
It’s the weekend before Christmas and the Wolverine basketball teams are at home tonight! Come out, fill the stands, and cheer on our teams as they take the court. Middle school and high school students can enjoy Fifth Quarter at the Gathering Place this evening after the games. The event is hosted by the Nodaway Valley Ministerial Association. The Grand Theatre is showing Avatar: Fire and Ash this weekend. Holiday fun continues tomorrow evening with an Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest at the Greenfield Bowl with live music by Boondock Bill starting at 7:00 pm.
This Sunday, December 21, Greenfield offers a meaningful opportunity to slow down and support one another during the holiday season. At 5:00 p.m., the Greenfield United Methodist Church will host a Blue Christmas Service, a quiet, reflective service for anyone who may not feel especially cheerful this time of year. Following the service, Community Conversations will continue at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall with a shared meal and open discussion focused on holiday sadness. Hosted by Adair County Healthy Connections, with support from the NVHS Personal Wellness & Leadership Class and Greenfield UMC, the evening is open to everyone. Whether you come to listen, share, or simply be present, you are welcome.
Next week the Greenfield Public Library is hosting STEM Days, a K-Pop Party, and a Kids Movie Afternoon (Friday), offering creative and engaging activities for youth during the holiday break. There will be a non-denominational Christmas Eve Service at The Gathering Place at 3:00 pm on Wednesday. Christmas Day offers several ways to gather and enjoy the holiday together in Greenfield. At noon on December 25, the Greenfield United Methodist Church will host a Christmas Dinner at 108 SW 5th Street. The meal includes turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, and pie. Takeout and delivery are available, and anyone interested in reserving a meal can call 641-743-2715. This is a wonderful option for those looking for a shared meal and friendly company on Christmas Day. Later on Christmas Day, the Rustic Tap in Fontanelle will host a family-friendly Christmas Day potluck beginning at 5:30 p.m. This free-will-donation gathering invites guests to bring a dish if they’re able, donate what they wish, and enjoy games, cards, puzzles, and relaxed time together. Festive cocktails will be available, and the Rustic Tap will be open from 3:00 to 10:00 p.m. It’s an easy, low-key way to spend the evening and connect with friends and neighbors.
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
