RECOVERY UPDATES: 

1. Habitat for Humanity has announced plans to build two new affordable homes in Greenfield at 406 SE 3rd and 408 SE 3rd. These homes will provide qualified families with an affordable pathway to homeownership, ensuring that homebuyers won’t spend more than 30% of their income on mortgage payments. This program not only makes owning a home accessible but also prepares participants through comprehensive homebuyer education. Each homeowner invests “sweat equity” hours, volunteering with Habitat to help keep these homes affordable and contribute to the vibrant community of Greenfield. Please see attached flyer for additional information. 

2. The City of Greenfield has posted a few reminders: 1. Outdoor warning sirens will be tested at 12 PM this Saturday, November 2nd. 2. Winter Parking reminder: From November 1 to March 31, street parking is not permitted in the City of Greenfield from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Fines are $50 per violation, and receiving three or more citations within a 12-month period may result in your vehicle being towed. The City asks you to save yourself the expense by finding alternative parking during these hours. 3. Tornado Damaged properties, same reminder as last week. 4. Adair County Health System will reopen on Monday, November 11. A grand reopening celebration will be held on Monday, November 4. ACHS DIETARY DELIVERY SERVICE HAS RETURNED: Hospital meal delivery services are once again available for Greenfield residents. 5. Mental Health Resources: Project Recovery Iowa is here to help, just a phone call away. Local team members Michael and Whitney, along with their Team Lead, BobbiJo Bernadette Hare, M.A., R.P., CADC, RYT, are available to offer support. BobbiJo holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and brings a wealth of experience. She is currently a member of the Mobile Crisis Response Team at Eyerly Ball Community Mental Health Services, a Group Therapist at UnityPoint Health Powell CDC, and is the Team Lead and Crisis Counselor for our region at Project Recovery Iowa. 6. Sharing Your Greenfield Tornado Story for the Discovery Channel Documentary: The Discovery Channel is working on a documentary that will be produced by Arrow Media, a highly respected production company. Lauren Caffyn, an Assistant Producer based in London, UK, has already connected with several Greenfield residents to discuss their experiences. If you captured any video footage before, during, or after the tornado, it would be a valuable addition to help tell your story. • The Nodaway Valley Boosters invite EVERYONE to come out, Saturday, November 2 for their Fall Party and Activities Fundraiser. The fun begins at 7:00 pm at Sixteen Oaks in Fontanelle! There will be trivia and bags tournaments, late registrations are being accepted. 

• The Rustic Tap in Fontanelle is hosting their Halloween-Karaoke-Costume Party on Saturday, November 2 from 7:00 pm - 2:00 am. Costume judging at 9:00 pm, fabulous prizes will be awarded! 

• Fontanelle Fire and Rescue will host their annual Soup & Sandwich Fundraiser on Sunday, November 3 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Funds raised will be used to update computers and software.

• Knitting Classes are held every Tuesday at the Orient Public Library from 4:00-5:30. Every level from beginners to experienced, no cost, no reservations needed!

• The next Chamber Main Street & Development Networking Luncheon will be held next week on Thursday, November 7th. This is a great event, and a way to stay informed on Chamber updates and local projects. Held at noon in the City Hall Meeting Room, this monthly luncheon includes a delicious meal from a supporting business for just $12. With time for introductions, updates on Chamber initiatives, and open discussion on business and community matters, it’s a perfect opportunity to build relationships and contribute to our community’s future. Be sure to reserve your meal by noon on Tuesday prior—looking forward to seeing you there!

• On Friday, November 8th, the Greenfield Public Library will host Kids Movie Afternoon from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. Bring your own covered drink, popcorn will be provided. 

• The Matura Adair County Outreach Center will be closed EVERY Friday in November. 

• Nodaway Valley Schools Drama Department invites you to join them on Friday, November 8th and Saturday, November 9th as they venture into the magical world of Dr. Seuss! Guided by the Cat in the Hat, you’ll journey from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, following Horton the Elephant as he bravely protects the tiny Whos on a speck of dust and an abandoned egg entrusted to him by Mayzie La Bird. Despite challenges, ridicule, and even a trial, Horton’s friend Gertrude McFuzz stands by him, proving that friendship, loyalty, family, and community prevail. Don’t miss this unforgettable adventure with your favorite Dr. Seuss characters! Performance will be held in the Nodaway Valley High School Auditorium, adult tickets are $10, students are $7.

• Head to Orient to witness some Sensational Sourdough on Saturday November 9th from 9:30-11 a.m at the Orient Community Library. Learn tips & tricks for growing, baking & keeping your very own sourdough by: Nancy Antisdel, Brook Lilly, & Jennifer Reed. Sign up with Julie, at 641 -745-7441.

• The Nodaway Valley Boys' Wrestling Club will host a fundraiser at the Rustic Tap on Saturday, November 9th at 3:00pm. It will be a fun event! More details are attached in the newsletter. You can register at the Rustic Tap by November 4th.

• Orient United Methodist Church's next Mobile Food Pantry is scheduled for Monday, November 11th starting at 3 p.m. There are income guidelines, and I will get a complete rundown of what those are and include it in next week's update. 

More Recovery Updates

• The Tornado Lost and Found Room at Greenfield United Methodist Church has closed. Unclaimed photos are now being stored in brown paper bags and stored at Greenfield Public Library. A binder with copies of photos will also be available for anyone who wishes to search for missing items. 

• SHARE YOUR STORY: There is still time to share your story! The Greenfield Public Library is collecting stories from the May 21, 2024 tornado. Stories can be turned in at the library or emailed to gpl@greenfield.lib.ia.us or contact Myra Lisk, 641-745-578 or via email at jimandmy@gmail.com. Myra may be reaching out to you in the coming days and weeks to ensure everyone has an opportunity to share their story. 

Youth Programming:

• After School Crew: Greenfield Public Library is hosting children ages 7-12 in the Junior Room inside the library from 2:30pm to 4:00pm each Wednesday for STEAM activities, crafts, and exploring the library. If a child can't make it at the start time or needs to leave early that is fine.

• Pokemon Club meets at the Greenfield Public Library the first Thursday of each month, 4:30-5:30

• The next Kids Movie Afternoon at the Greenfield Public Library will be Friday, November 8, 4:00 - 5:30 pm.

• Adair County Health System - Greenfield Clinic: The clinic has returned to its regular hours of operation: Monday – Friday, 7:30AM-6:00PM and Saturday, 8:00AM-12:00PM. To schedule an appointment please call 641-743-6189

• Adair County Health System Hospital will reopen on Monday, November 11! The hospital will officially resume full operations on November 11, 2024.

• Rock Valley Physical Therapy: Rock Valley Physical Therapy is temporarily operating out of the Adair County Fitness Center. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call 641-743-7259.

• Senior Life Solutions reopened, inside the Haven's Building, on Monday, October 21.
